Honda CR-Z

Here is the latest from Green Car Congress. The production version of the media's favorite Honda FCX will be presented at the upcoming Los Angeles Auto Show.

That can only mean one thing. The fuel cell-powered vehicle is poised to go from concept to retail sometime in 2008. The news comes straight from Honda President and CEO Takeo Fukui, who made the announcement at the Tokyo Auto Show today.

Of course, the main focus of the automaker's global market ambitions will be on its continued commitment to hybrid technologies. According to the report, "Honda expects hybrids to account for 10% of its global vehicle sales by 2010--about 5 times the current level."

The most vivid of examples of that development would be Honda CR-Z (above). Scheduled to be released in 2009, the sports coupe is powered by Honda's trusted gas-electric IMA hybrid system and signifies the automaker's attempt to improve on the rather unsuccessful Honda Insight.

‘CR-Z’ stands for ‘Compact Renaissance Zero’-an expression intended to capture the idea of a renaissance in the design of compact cars that begins anew from fundamentals.

This design research model of a lightweight hybrid sports car features advanced technologies that deliver enjoyable driving for all while reducing the vehicle’s environmental footprint.

Exterior design

Designed to be ‘Futuristic and Dynamic’, the CR-Z combines powerful performance in a compact form with a futuristic image. For its frontal view, an over-sized grill with a high-performance look is offset by openings on each side that lighten the overall feel. In the rear, tube-shaped rear combination lamps ensure better rearward visibility. Design details emphasizing the CR-Z’s advanced image include door mirrors that provide high visibility in a stylish form, LED headlights patterned after luminous bodies to convey a sharp impression, and jauntyfin-shaped.

Honda Jazz

Though the Honda Jazz is small, Honda's enviable reputation for refinement and reliability shine through clearly. Take a little look at the exterior of the Honda Jazz and you will see just some of the great styling and body features that saw the Honda Jazz win the Japan Car of the Year in 2001 and 2002 - with a few updated twists here and there. To begin with, though the Honda Jazz is a little car - it only measures 3.8 metres long, 1.675 metres wide and 1.525 metres high, with the Honda Jazz Sport being a tiny bit longer - your view of the road isn't small.

Current model series include:
  • Honda Jazz 1.3 GLi
  • Honda Jazz 1.5 VTi
  • Honda Jazz 1.5 VTi-S

Honda Civic Mugen Si Sedan

The Honda Civic Si, one of the best values in performance, gets updated bodywork and some new electronics to keep it competitive for the 2009 model year. None of these changes are drastic--just a few add-ons and styling to comport with Honda's new look--because the Civic Si doesn't need much changed. It gives extraordinary driving pleasure, as it has since the introduction of the 2-liter engine version in 2002.

The 2009 Honda Civic Si evolves the design introduced in 2005, introducing a more angular grille with diamond-pattern inset. But the basic silhouette is the same, at least in our coupe model test car. Welcome additions to the cabin tech are a USB port in the console and a Bluetooth hands-free cell phone system.

Honda Civic Si

The 2006 Honda Civic Si is a real performance bargain that also offers good mileage and emissions ratings. The quality of the electronics is equivalent to that found in much pricier vehicles. Simple standard features fit the car's mission well, signaling the Si's return to form.

The Civic Si showcases the high-performance potential of the Civic platform and offers a 197 horsepower, DOHC 2.0-liter i-VTEC engine connected to a 6-speed manual transmission and a limited slip differential.

Honda JDM Civic Type R

The JDM Civic Type R's cockpit is all business. "Honda R-spec" seats (which look an awful lot like the EK's Recaros) keep the front occupants in place while extra side bolsters on the rear bench keep back seat passengers from flying all over the place while running the C1 loop. The Civic Type R keeps the "love-it-or-hate-it" two-tiered dash; we love it, so we're glad it's staying. Rounding out the Type R package is a push-button starter, navigation screen delete and drilled aluminum pedals. Civic R buyers can opt for the black and red interior color scheme or the more subdued all-black interior. We'd opt for "all black", but that's just 'cause everyone we know with Type R-red Recaros have had their cars stolen...

2009 honda fit jazz

Honda’s all-new Fit (Jazz) compact car has been revealed ahead of its world debut at next month’s Tokyo Motor Show and eventual sale early next year. The new model shares a striking resemblance to the one it will be replacing, including its angular headlights and tall roofline. The new car does, however, sport a smoother overall shape, new grille and new taillights.

Though official details are yet to be released, we can assume the car will be powered by a range of small capacity petrol engines including a possible 1.3L unit and larger 1.5L version. There’s rumor Honda may even launch a hybrid version of the Fit as well as a diesel variant for European markets.

Transmissions

The 1.2 and 1.4-litre models are equipped with an evolution of the previous 5-speed manual transmission with gear ratios optimised for a more sporty driving experience while ensuring good fuel economy.

Key improvements include a revised clutch pedal stroke, carbon-type synchroniser on third gear to minimise shift load, crisper shifting through reduced clutch disc inertia and improved refinement.

Manual transmission-equipped models feature the new SIL (Shift Indicator Light) within the centre of the rev counter, also found on the latest Honda Accord. Providing the driver with a visual prompt of the best gear shift points to maximise economy, it has been demonstrated to provide meaningful fuel economy improvements.

i-SHIFT (6-speed automated manual transmission)

As well as a 5-speed manual gearbox, the 1.4-litre engine can be teamed up with Honda's latest i-SHIFT transmission. The first time a 6-speed automated manual transmission has been offered in this vehicle class, the gearbox offers better fuel economy than is possible with either a true automatic or a CVT (continuously variable transmission).

The unit is a development of the system first fitted to the Civic, with improvements made including; reduced gear change times, smoother shifts and more intelligent automatic mode shift logic.

Honda Civic Type S

It is little wonder hot hatches are so popular in the UK; fast, practical and very stylish, they offer performance motoring for everyman money. That is until you look at insurance and fuel economy, both of which prove that everything has its downsides. But what are the options if you want a hot hatch without these wallet-ruining side effects? The answer lies not in doing more overtime at work, and instead in switching to diesel. Because today’s modern diesel engines are refined, quick and very frugal – and Honda’s 2.2-CDTi unit is one of the best. What we want to know is does it make a viable alternative to the Civic Type-R when dressed in sporting Type-S guise.

Honda Civic Type-R

The Honda Civic Type-R: an uncompromising hot hatch with great performance. That may have been true for the first-generation model, but Honda has listened carefully to feedback from its customers and this time around, the Type-R's is considerably easier to live with on a day-to-day basis.

Honda is at pains to insist that this doesn't mean the Type-R's gone soft, though. There's 198bhp on offer from the 2.0-litre i-VTEC engine and performance has not been watered down: 0-62mph still comes up in 6.6 seconds and top speed is a pretty healthy 146mph, should you have access to a track or an airstrip to fully test this out. It's also actually more rewarding at lower engine speeds: since the maximum torque of 142lb-ft now peaks at 5,600rpm, rather than at 6,500rpm, in-gear acceleration has been improved, and you can make swift progress without having to set the engine screaming. Well, not quite so loudly, anyway.

The Civic Type-R comes in three-door form only, with a choice of standard or GT specification levels: the GT pack adds front fog lights, dual-zone climate control, cruise control, side curtain airbags, a lockable glovebox, power-folding door mirrors and automatic headlights.
